If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your
pocket and then giving Fido only two of them. --Phil Pastoret

» Next
knitting project (I hope): I
REALLY want to make Klaralund
from the Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton Collection - Book Two.
Maggie showed
up to the monthly Knitting
Meetup in her Klaralund
in the Noro Silk Garden color #34 and it was GORGEOUS! The
combination of purples, browns and mossy greens were sooo yummy.
After seeing
hers I want to make mine in the same exact color.

» FINALLY!
A decent movie
version of Beowulf is in the
making. I'm tickled pink with the casting so far—I
love Stellan
Skarsgård as Hrothgar and Gerard
Bulter as
Beowulf.
Definately check out the location photos and the costume gallery on this site. I'd give you direct links, but alas, the site is done up in frames and I can't give you direct links. Sigh...I hate frames.

» Note
to Suzanne: The
movie we were talking about last night at Stitch n' Bitch is called
"No
Such Thing".
Synopsis: "Writer-Director Hal Hartley takes a humorous and satirical look at a society concerned only with instant gratification and voyeuristic sensationalism. Disgusted with human evolution, a foul-mouthed Monster (Robert Burke) kills anyone who crosses his path. When a news crew sent to investigate the Monster disappears, a guileless young woman (Sarah Polley) dispatched to follow up on the story befriends the Monster and becomes his only hope in ending his life of misery."
» For
all your poncho fans out there, check out this backlash article: Is
That a Real Poncho?
The hideous new trend afflicting America. "Fashion crimes, like many
other crimes, begin innocently enough. A few influential designers
send a quirky and impractical article of clothing down the runway;
high-fashion magazines enthusiastically push it; a celebrity is photographed
wearing it; lower-end lines begin mass-producing it; suddenly, women
are buying it in shrieking colors and synthetic fabrics, and what
started as a harmless act of whimsy has become a widespread aesthetic
offense." [more]

» I've found a new host for my website
that is only $4.95/month for 500MB. An ICE fan
(I'm the ICE Webmistress) told me about
brinkster.com and
I've gone ahead and signed up for an account and will be moving my
site over
later this week. I love a good deal!
» Whenever I look at CSSZenGarden.com I
get inspired to design new skins for my site.
The Road to Enlightenment
Littering a dark and dreary road lay the past relics of browser-specific tags, incompatible DOMs, and broken CSS support.

» I've
got a fever... and the only prescription...is
more cowbell! I
know this SNL skit is old news for many (it's from back in June)
but it's soooo frickin' funny and I love Chrstopher Walken's
part as the record producer who needs more cowbell!
» While
I'm on the subject...check
out the very fleet-footed Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim's "Weapon
of Choice" video. This video is a couple of years old,
but it's such a classic, and if you're a Walken fan like me,
you love to watch it every once in a while. Did you know he used
to be a professional dancer and stage actor before he became
a serious film actor?

» Odd
confession of the day: I love the crumhorn! "What
the heck is a crumhorn?!" A crumhorn
(KRUM-horn) is a medieval and Renaissance wind instrument related
to the recorder, but with
an encased double reed. Here you can see and hear them: The
Crumhorn Homepage and Musica
Antiqua's Crumhorn page.

» Skull reveals how cranial surgery saved life of 11th-century peasant. (from Scotsman.com) Archaeologists revealed new evidence yesterday which shows complicated cranial surgery was being performed in Britain 1,000 years ago. An 11th-century skull, found at the abandoned ancient village of Wharram Percy in North Yorkshire, shows the scars of a near-fatal blow by a blunt weapon. But, thanks to a "life-saving" procedure performed at the time, the victim, aged about 40, survived the injury and made a good recovery. [more]
» I
love the Ellen DeGeneres Show. In
fact I'm watching it right now, but don't tell my boss. Last night
at the weekly Tuesday-night Stitch n' Bitch knitting club
meeting I was chatting about the Ellen show with a couple
of the gals. We all agreed that she's a very intelligent
and irriverent comedian who has a perfect sense of timing.
She's also a really good dancer and just plain fun to watch.
» Current Knitting WOP (Work In Progress): So...I finished the Very Harlot Poncho in the dark gold Berroco Softwist, but I wasn't totally happy, so I unraveled it. Now I'm using the yummy yarn to make the Tahki, Stacy Charles, Inc. poncho.
» If
You Secretly Like Michael Bolton, We'll Know (from Wired.com)—A
proud nerd puts her prefrontal cortex on the line to discover
why brain mapping is the new trend spotting
(and the hottest trend
in brain science). "I am not cool. For starters, I don't
listen to music. It disrupts my concentration and makes
me cranky.
I'm anxious at parties, always hoping that someone will turn
down the stereo so that we can all break off into small
groups
and talk, preferably about science or books. My ideal evening
ends early, around 10, freeing me to go home and read. At
the
party,
everyone would wear something comfortable, possibly
flannel." [more]

» Hot
new abstract artist—at age four: Marla Olmstead
is still in preschool, but she has already had her own show, sold
24 paintings and made nearly $68,000. [see
